C

ornerstone is an Independent Fostering and Post Adoption Support Agency. Based in the North East of England, we are a Christian charity specialising in offering permanent homes to children in the care of Local Authorities. Current outcomes for children and young people in care make sobering reading. By placing these children in loving families, which themselves are well supported, Cornerstone is challenging these trends and giving these children a future.

How It All Began

Cornerstone was launched in 1999 to recruit foster carers to provide loving and stable homes for sibling groups. CARE took over from 2002 until April 2006, when Cornerstone became a charity in its own right.

Today

Cornerstone specialises in providing 'Forever Families' who care for a child, or a sibling group, beyond their time in care. Children who are placed with our carers are loved and valued as individuals and raised as if they were their natural children. 80% of these children and young people have now been adopted by their foster carers. We support our families throughout the adoption process itself and then continue after the adoption order has been granted.

In 2016 the Trustees have extended the scope and reach of Cornerstone to include Short term Placements, Parent-Child Placements, Shared Care and are planning to include Foster-to-Adopt should our application to Ofsted to become a Voluntary Adoption Agency be successful this spring.

In response to the Migration Crisis and in partnership with Home For Good Cornerstone Carers are open to receive Unaccompanied Asylum Seeker Minors (Young refugees) and we are now actively recruiting families who meet our Genuine Occupational Requirements for any of the above fostering and adoption opportunities.

Currently we have Carers throughout the North East and are looking to expand our reach into Cumbria, North and South Yorkshire, the Humber region and across into the North West.

What others say about us

Watch a short video done recently by one of our then prospective (now approved) Carers describing why they chose Cornerstone.

"Cornerstone's Skills to Foster Training was delivered with the highest standards and the friendly, yet professional atmosphere helped me to decide that I do want to become a Foster Carer." (Potential new Foster Carer after completing the compulsory Skills to Foster Training course)

"I love how Cornerstone is like a big family! We are very happy with the support we receive. I enjoy the opportunity that I can meet other carers through training and value the way that Cornerstone operates, its ethos and values." (Current Carer)

"Contact with Cornerstone is fairly regular via phone calls, emails and review meetings. If there is an important issue to discuss, Cornerstone have always been good in terms of communication and I had no problem contacting them at any time." (Local Authority Social Worker)
